I began learning to fly paragliders in Natal Brazil during Jan of 2010. Those first 6 weeks were more than a challenge. The local instructor was a genuinely nice guy and a very skilled pilot, but …as an instructor, Not-so-good. Learning was fun some days, but on other days, it was beyond frustrating.
Then on February 16, I had the good fortune to meet Gilberto Cipriani on the Beach. We chatted for a bit and he offered to give me a free mini lesson.
We worked on PLF landing techniques followed by forward kiting. Gilberto taught me the art of controlling my wing over head through “feeling”it,rather than looking at it. Wow! A light flashed in inside my head. It was one of those rare Zen type of moments that you never forget.
Gilberto’s style of teaching was completely different than what was being taught at the local flying site. I was amazed, impressed, and felt very lucky to have crossed paths with him. Gilberto has a passion for teaching and it’s obvious when speaking with him.
Highly skilled and passionate instructors is rare. It seems that
most are more concerned about money than the quality of their instruction.
Hey Gilberto… What more can I say, you taught me and guided me well and I appreciate it. Thanks! Obrigadao! Valeu!
